[Math Olympiads]

Dear Math Supervisor,

I thank you for distributing our Math Olympiad 
materials in the past. It is good to see how many 
people believe, as we do, that mathematics is 
best taught through the solving of authentic 
problems. The Math Olympiads was built on this 
foundation. The NCTM agrees, naming problem 
solving as its first Process Standard. Experience 
has taught us that good problems well presented 
accomplish four goals: students are eager to do 
more math, their problem-solving skills are 
strengthened, their comprehension of math becomes 
stronger and more intuitive, and their basic skills are reinforced.

May we send again, at no cost to you, enough 
informational packets for all administrators or 
teachers of students in grades 4 – 8 who may be 
interested? Each packet contains about 25 
engaging problems and some informative, helpful 
articles. It is important that every teacher, 
even those who never participate in the Math 
Olympiads, get the message that the most powerful 
way to teach mathematics well is through problem solving.
